Favourite Moments of September 2014

I know it should be Trendy Tuesday right now but it's also the end of the month so I've decided to go with this!

We've been at school for a month and I'm feeling the pressure of A Levels so much already. But, let's not focus on the negatives! It's always nice to look back on the good days rather than the bad so here are my favourite moments of September:

  1. Getting my new timetable for school. I have so many study periods now that I just don't know what to do all the time.
  2. Finding out that I have friends to keep me company during ALL of my study periods.
  3. Seeing my boyfriend after about 3 weeks! He doesn't go to school anymore; he has an apprenticeship (basically, he's an adult now) so finding time to see each other has been hard.
  4. Going to see The Riot Club. The film was really good, in my opinion.
  5. Seeing my boyfriend again after another two weeks >.< I'm clingy..
  6. Going to UCA Epsom! University is just getting closer and closer.
Next month, I am definitely looking forward to more open days, more happy moments and Halloween!

A Day Out: UCA Epsom Open Day

I went to the University for the Creative Arts in Epsom today! The university has four campuses and the  Fashion courses are concentrated primarily at Epsom. It's not that big; the campus is one building with small halls of residence for the students. Most of the students live in houses.

The university is in the town of Epsom, on the same road as the Ashley Centre - a pretty big shopping centre for the town. We parked in their multi-storey car park so my dad and I got some coffees to go from McDonald's.

The photo doesn't really do the building justice. The glass on the outside has a really pretty black floral pattern on it and I loved it. Inside this part of the building, the colour scheme of the interior is cream and purple. There wasn't a lot of people at the open day compared to the other ones I went to but it makes sense because this place was really small compared to somewhere like Leeds university. That place was the same size as Epsom itself.

The accommodation at the university was small. They only housed about 100 to 200 students out of the 1,700 they have at Epsom. The rest lived in houses with random people they were put with.

Because of the small amount of people there today, my photos do make it seem like my dad and I were alone in the university. Everyone was spread out.

The place also had their own art supplies which were cheap. They had sketchbooks, design pens, chalks, paints, canvases, everything! I bought a fine liner since the one I had dried out and the other one I had just didn't get along with me - it would tear the paper mid-drawing. It was only £2 so why not?

After going around the university and going to talks and things like that my dad and I headed to the town centre to explore. That's when I really stood out as a city girl. Epsom is a pretty traditional British town and most of the people there were in checkered shirts, trousers and flat shoes or trainers. There was the occasional crop top and make-up. But, I was there in shorts, tights and high heeled boots matched with a black top and a plain shirt over it. I also had my fringed, over-the-top bag from River Island whereas other people had a simple black or brown leather bag. Some had the florals like the Cath Kidston bags, though.

My dad was set on eating at Nando's so we did.

I had the last half chicken. That's right! Nando's ran out of chicken! They still had burgers and wraps and all that but they had no more pure chicken platters to serve for about 15 minutes. They let my dad swap his food with whatever he wanted, though, so it was okay.

The chicken I got was Hot. Here, where we live, Hot isn't that hot. There, it was smoking which was a surprise. The chicken was drowned in the sauce. I don't know how many cups of Sprite I had during that meal but it was a lot. At least 6 full glasses, I know that. My dad just sat and laughed at me.
We drove back home after that. There wasn't a lot to do. There were a lot of shops there (including a massive H&M) so I am definitely considering the place. The Fashion course appealed to me quite well!

I Have Boots Again!

So half my friends are currently in another country. They'll be back tomorrow.

Anyway, I went shopping! I haven't done that in a while. I only bought 2 things but I'm sort of poor so, for me, I think that's an achievement. I usually buy one piece of clothing and then spend some money on accessories.

I've been on the hunt for a new pair of boots since I threw mine away about a week ago - the heels had worn out. I bought this new pair from New Look for £29.99 (so basically for £30) and I absolutely love them. It doesn't feel that high when you wear them since the front is quite elevated too. They're also really comfortable. It does take a while to put them on, though - you have to put the laces through the top two rings and then do the buckles at the front after. The heels aren't made of rubber so I'm hoping, fingers crossed, that they last more than a season.

Considering I bought 2 tickets for The Riot Club before shopping and the person I bought the other ticket for didn't actually arrive until the film started, I couldn't buy the jumper I wanted that was slightly more expensive than this one. They paid me back after the film. Anyway, I found this one at H&M - there were four different colour mixes and it cost me £9.99 (so £10). The other colours were monochrome; green and  blue (or black, I forgot); red and black and this one! Blue, pink and black. I tried on this one and the monochrome one before deciding. They gave me the disabled changing room since the others were full and I forgot that the doors to the changing rooms didn't go all the way to the ground. When I try on clothes, I tend to move a lot and dance since that's what I usually do on a day to day basis. To the people outside, it probably looked a bit weird and funny just seeing my feet move around the floor. I did a lot of things.... dance, catwalk, dance some more and even a bit of spinning... I need to know that I'll be comfortable in it!

After shopping, my friends and I went to see The Riot Club. It was the poshest movie ever and it made me giggle quite a lot. No one told me that Natalie Dormer (the woman who plays Margaery in Game of Thrones) was in the film. She was only in it for about 5 minutes but, oh my God, she looked really hot - she's one of my woman crushes... The film itself was pretty good. It sort of lost it a bit after things happened near the end but overall I enjoyed it.

I do wish that I had a bit more money. I really need more winter clothes. Most of my clothes are for the summer.

Trendy Tuesday: Tribal/Boho Jewellery

I love love LOVE the tribal style. I'm really not an elegant person. I'm the polar opposite of someone who is. Occasionally, I will dress up as one, just for fun, for school, since I do have those moments where I think "I want to look like a lady!"

Most people know that I have a staple piece of tribal wear which is my multi-feather earring. Singular. It goes with my hair.

The thing with "elegant" or "classy" jewellery is that, even though they're pretty and easier on the eyes, they're also really fragile. I wore one of my gold necklaces to school last week and that didn't last the whole day. It broke around 4th period and I didn't even touch it. I have a few other necklaces, however, that I wear way more frequently and those things have lasted me years.

In my opinion, I just feel like I can't pull off a classy look. Ever. Tribal jewellery goes a lot better with me. I don't have that soft face that the pretty girls have. Don't get me wrong, though. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It's just not for me.

I Can Get The Interview But Not The Job

I've had a really bad streak this year of being able to get an interview for any job that I apply to but after that I don't get the job. No two interviews have been alike so I can't really see what I've been doing wrong. I never wore the same outfit more than twice either.

Earlier today I had another interview and I went all out with it. I bought new clothes, wore a full face of make up and even slammed on a pair of tailored trousers and heels. I felt like such a grown up earlier. When I went into some shops to look at things, people were mistaking me for an employee there... So I bought a coffee and went home.

I don't really have a lot to talk about. This is just a filler for the week since I haven't got anything decent to blog about. I have been really busy because of school work and all that so I've had to put this on the bottom of my priority list. However, I should be able to do another Trendy Tuesday post for this Tuesday. Don't you worry about that.

Trendy Tuesday: Beanie Season!

So last year I wrote a post titled "11 Reasons To Love Autumn" since it is my favourite time of the year. Well, you can add another reason to that list and that is, of course, beanies! I love my beanies. I've made my round through different ones over the years and I have currently have 3 for this autumn.

Beanies are popular and they're perfect for keeping your head warm without compromising the rest of your outfit. I personally prefer beanies to winter headbands since I can never seem to wear those things without my hair poofing up in clumps at the top. It's not attractive. Also, because of my thick hair, those bands just squeeze it all against my face, making the sides of my head look really flat.

to whoever has my hat that looks exactly like this: I could really use it now that I live in Utah

They can also affect your overall look with light/pastel coloured beanies giving the wearer a sweet, dolled up look and darker beanies giving the wearer a more rock and roll look.

love the beanie and baggy sweater (bad timing but it would be sick for summer)

Slouchy Beanie... i have a lot of hats but i don't have a hat like that

And let's not forget that beanies aren't just for the girls. Guys can pull these things off just as well and, in my opinion, it can make a guy look even hotter (but that depends on who the guy is). I have a friend with a beanie and when he wears it he just looks a bit silly...

Hat!!!!!!!! I'm ordering it in 20 min shipping! Don't care how much it costs! Ha! See I can always find a way... John Watson!

I Have Art Things

Before you judge me, I don't know why I feel the need to put things I'm showing in front of my face, I just do. Deal with it.

A friend of mine went to Japan for the summer and bought me two Totoro sketchbooks! I started to have trouble sleeping during the summer and I was up at about 5am when he asked me if I wanted anything (thank you time differences). I didn't sleep at all that night. Anyway, the sketchbooks are actually a really good quality. I was quite surprised. It's rare to find a sketchbook that's decent where the cover isn't black. But, I guess it is Japan. It's all weird and interesting over there.

I also got a set of Staedtler pens from Tyson Triplus on Facebook. That's right. The dog mascot! "He" held a Facebook competition to design your dream uniform. I didn't expect to end up as a finalist since my drawing took about 5-10 minutes to draw and colour - front and back view. It was pretty good, I have to admit, but the top ones were pretty awesome. I was, however, one of the first 100 to enter the competition so Tyson offered to send me some fibre-tip pens! Of course I took the offer. They are brilliant and so perfect since I do need them for school and my portfolios.

There was a bit of fear in the back of my mind because Tyson Triplus was not verified on Facebook or Twitter (I don't know if he is now) so I legitimately thought that I had given my address away to a bunch of killers... That wasn't the case, though, thank the heavens! I got the pens about a week later.

Staedtler fineliners are a designer's best friend. They're so easy to colour with and to control. I'm more confident with these than I am with other pens. I think I just feel better knowing I have pens of a great quality when I'm working.

Trendy Tuesday: Shoes for Autumn

It's September. Officially. I still choose not to accept it but that's not going to stop the earth from moving so I'll get over it. Eventually.

So autumn (or fall) is almost upon us and it's time to switch those sandals for some boots, hi-tops and shoes that also cover the top of your foot.

I currently have two pairs of shoes for autumn. That's really bad. I have loads for the warmer days; they last longer. I always have to buy new boots every year because I don't walk like a normal human being. The heels of my shoes always wear away uneven. I know it's normal for that to happen but my shoes do that in the space of 3 months. The outside of the heels wear away a lot quicker than the inside and it gets to the point where it's no longer comfortable or easy to walk in them. It doesn't matter if they're flat shoes or high heels. It will happen...

THOSE STOCKINGS AND BOOTS

I have had pretty much every type of boot - ankle, mid-calf, knee length, leather, UGG, plastic, cowboy, flat, high heel, wedge etc. But one type I've never had are lace-up ones. I have a pair of lace up wedges and they're awesome and super comfortable but I do want some form of variety in regards to my shoes.

Lace-up boots are pretty much what everyone's going for right now and I want to be a part of it. These things are so versatile! You can wear them with a dress and be all dolled up or you can shove on some shorts and a checkered top and you're pretty much ready to rock out.

The picture above is of a pair that's similar to the ones I have right now. The heels are made of rubber (like most boots) so, yeah, they've worn away at a really obvious diagonal to the floor. I tried to wear them a few days ago and my feet just bent inwards... It wasn't comfy.

I am in love with this. It reminds me of hipster/cool. So yea

New Look and H&M are my go-to places when it comes to shoes since they're pretty durable and just...pretty! They're also priced quite decently as well.

I'm hoping to get a job within the next month so I can actually buy some pairs of shoes to keep my feet warm! It's not easy when you're a student. "Weekend" jobs aren't really weekend jobs... People come into school in their work uniforms quite often.
