Favourite Moments of February 2014

It's the end of the month of love! A pretty short yet eventful month (for me, anyway). Here are my favourite moments of February:
  • Starting and finishing my little skirt project! I really want to go back to John Lewis to get the purple woolen fabric and make another one...
  • Finishing my art coursework. I am so proud of those books.
  • Being able to sit back for a whole weekend and do absolutely nothing.
  • Watching the Winter Olympics' Figure Skating and Ice Dance during the nights.
  • Seeing the LEGO Movie. It was awesome!
  • Buying a load of make-up at Boots. It was a brilliant moment until I realised the price of it all.
I seriously can't believe we're a day away from March. The days go by so fast. Every day is another day closer to my Art Exam... It's the first exam I have and it's at the end of March. I've done barely anything for it. I'm screwed.

Make Up, Marbles and a Mattress

That pretty much sums up the last few days...

I don't know how much nail paint I've wasted but I've finally got water marbling down (yes!) and my nails look awesome. I would take another picture of my nails but the light in my room is terrible and my hand looks awkward when I take a picture. I'll get a decent one in the next day or two, I promise.

So, on Monday and over the last few days of the half term, I was pretty stressed and tired. I had to do something about it. What did I do? I went to Boots and spent a good amount of money on make-up. I bought more than I needed but I regret nothing. It has made me wear more make-up to school, though, but it's not that bad. I don't mind spending an extra five or ten minutes when I'm getting ready for school. Most of the make-up I bought was from Rimmel London; I am loving this brand more and more. I've also started wearing lipstick... I don't really like wearing it because it's heavy on my lips (and my lips are ridiculously thick) but I have these two shades that I absolutely adore.

I have a new mattress too! It's so bouncy. I've had my previous mattress for a whole decade and a bit so it was time for a new one. It's also taller than my old one so when I sit on the edge I can't touch the floor with my feet anymore. It's really sad. I'm really short. I've slowly grown accustomed to it. I usually sit on my bed and expect to sink into my mattress. Now I bounce. It's pretty fun and it hasn't gotten old yet.

One thing I decided I needed to do over the half term was change. Not drastically but a little change was needed. I was getting more and more depressed each day so I consider these new things I have as representations of a new start for me. I'm starting each day with a smile (kind of) and I'm making more of an effort to look good and feel good about myself. I'm definitely doing more work in my free time at school but I haven't ditched my friends; we still have our laughs and moments of pure insanity. So far, I've been great and I feel more awake even though I only sleep for about 5 hours a night. Hopefully, this continues. I'd love it to.

That's all for now. Stay beautiful x

Trendy Tuesday: Red Lipstick

Red lips have been around forever and it often goes unnoticed. The trend comes and goes but it never dies. Recently, I’ve seen more and more people wearing red lipstick. Why? It goes with everything.

My Pinterest has been taken over by pictures of models wearing the red; the YouTubers I watch have been wearing the red. It’s been driving me slightly crazy.

Be wary, though, since there are more than one shade of red in the make-up world.

I don’t really wear lipstick but I have so many of them I probably should start. This is what I wore today:

Rimmel London Kate Matte Lipstick - Rouge

I love it. That’s all I can say. Rimmel London’s make-up is amazing. Everything on my face in the pictures are from Rimmel London.

The lipstick seriously gives you that sense of confidence people always talk about. I did feel more energetic today.

Nail Art And I

I have been a fan of nail art for a long time. I love drawing on my nails and using the things around me to create patterns. It is a bit difficult when you don't have the proper tools but using everyday things will work once you get the hang of it.

Nail art design I want to be able to do this so bad.. I wouldnt have to pay the big amount of money to get my nails done when I can do it myself. And I can do my friends so they dont have to pay the expensive prices when I can do them for them...

Blue nails with black dots and swirls Nail Design - DIY NAIL ART DESIGNS

Lately, I haven't had the time to properly try anything on my nails so I just paint them different colours to keep them interesting. Some things that I really find handy when it comes to nail art are: hair pins, toothpicks, masking tape (never sellotape), and clear nail polish. The effects from these things are limited compared to the proper nail art tools but those are expensive. The only things I think you should really spend money on are nail pens. You can use these to create intricate details and pictures on your nails. Things like lines and polka dots can easily be recreated using tape and pins.

.

Super cute! #nail #nails #nailart

If you read my post yesterday (it’s below this one) you’ll see my failed attempt at marbling. For that you also need a toothpick or pin and nail polish that isn’t quick-dry. Marbling, in my opinion, is the best way to create amazing nails; you don’t have to worry about the image, you can mess about with colours and there are no limits to it. It is really difficult, though… for me, anyway. I’m pretty good at all the other things. I just want to master marbling!

Nail Art: Marbling

I found out about this technique a few years ago but I never had the time or correct nail polish to actually try this.

For those who don't know, marbling is this really cool way of getting different colours to your nails. You put nail polish into water and mess about with the pattern to create awesome nail art. I tried it about an hour ago with some black and red nail polish; it's not as easy as it looks. This is literally my first attempt:

The colours were too faded but I got the whole pattern thing down. I just need to make sure I get the balance of colours correct and I should be able to create something a lot better. I wasn't too upset with the pattern on my thumb but the rest of my nails were a disaster.

When you compare my attempt to the others I found on Pinterest then you'll see how amateur my attempt was.

I felt really sad and irritated at myself when I saw my own nails compared to these. I am going to practise and get this right!

TMI Tag

Phoebs from Geek Chic Notes posted this yesterday and, since I haven't done a tag in a long time, I thought I would answer the questions! Enjoy!

This has been on my phone for a while and it's also my phone's wallpaper.

Top Tips To Trendy Tuesday?

I haven't done one of these in a while. Woah...

Okay, I really can't be bothered to think of new things to tell you people. Whatever advice you need is already on the internet somewhere and there's no point in me repeating what someone else has said. What I am really into right now is Pinterest. I follow a lot of fashion boards so what I thought of was this: Trendy Tuesday! It saves me from having to write and think of something every week. It's pretty difficult now that my advice bucket is empty.

Every Tuesday, I'll post a picture (or five) that I really like from Pinterest. We'll start now.

Tallow Pineapple Mini Skirt
Tallow Pineapple Miniskirt
Urban Outfitters

This skirt really caught my eye and gave me this idea. I like how it drapes and it also looks really easy to make! I'm still not 100% comfortable with making a box-pleat skirt so I want to get that sorted out first.

I Finished That Skirt Project

I am really sorry for delaying this. I finished writing this a few days ago and I never had the chance to post it because my phone and my laptop refused to work together; the pictures on my phone wouldn't upload as a result. I can't be bothered to update the writing so assume you saw this last Thursday or something. Okay? Yes? Yes.

That was fast... I've finished already. I've added the waistband - it wasn't easy. Straight lines are not my thing and I did screw it up badly on the first try. That led me to 30 minutes of doin nothing but cutting off the seam and restarting. I took it slow, stopping the sewing machine every few seconds to check what I was doing was correct.

After that, I added button holes for the smaller buttons that fasten the waistband shut.

Voila!
Front

Back
I am seriously thinking of making more of these. I also have a scarf to finish...

I made the skirt with a fitted waistband so I can't adjust it and, funnily enough, I've lost weight since I started making it. It's a bit loose now but I can put a belt on it. There are some changes that I would make - the main one being that I'd make the waistband wider. I'd probably make the pleats bigger too. It looks really nice and I have quite a few tops that this can go with. If it survives the washing machine, it will get a place in my wardrobe.

Don't Eat All Of It

I'm actually pretty proud of myself. My boyfriend gave me a box of chocolates yesterday and I still haven't finished it. Last night, I ate all of the top half of the box and then I felt really fat. I told myself that I'll only have 2 pieces everyday until it runs out. A good plan, right? Haha, I thought so too. I've already had my two pieces... It's still the morning!

I am going to a friend's house today, though, so I won't be tempted by the box. If I can last the next two hours in my house without eating another piece then I'll be fine. It is the half term as well so I am going to be near that box for the rest of the week. I'm not going out again with the wind and the rain attacking me. The indoors is where I belong and it's a lot warmer too.

The place I live in isn't flooded (luckily) but I do hope that everyone who has been affected by the extreme weather, both here and the rest of the world, are okay and are safe. The worst damage around here is that most of the fences and a lot of the trees have been blown over - including our fences - but we haven't had any big devastation happen. I'm still waiting for the snow but I doubt it's going to come this year.

Happy Valentine's Day

It's Friday! Most call it Valentine's Day, others might call it Singles Awareness Day, some probably tell you to shut up because it's the worst day ever... Who knows? Two years ago I spend the day reminding everyone of what happened to St Valentine. Now, I kind of regret doing that.

I like Valentine's Day. Since we had school today, my boyfriend and I are going out tomorrow. Also, since it's Valentine's Day, everywhere will be packed with people. You can't really go somewhere without booking it first. We're going bowling and then maybe KFC (romantic, right?).

I hate the whole romance thing. I feel more comfortable being in Subway or Pizza Hut compared to a fancy restaurant. I'd rather show up in jeans and a t-shirt rather than in a dress; I get self-conscious. Roses are also not my thing. I prefer tulips. They're so simple and beautiful. A rose is just too much. I like drawing them, though.

Anyway, I hope you have a good day today regardless on whether or not you're celebrating or hating it. I know you have to put up with seeing couples everywhere and I know how annoying it is. My friends have to put up with us every school day; I know how it feels from their faces. I have to say, however, that we weren't as bad as when we first started going out.

I'm Not Dead

I haven't posted in a while... Urgh...

So, this week I've been ill. I still went to school, though, but it meant that by the end of the day I was extremely tired. I spent most of my time after school on the sofa doing nothing, in bed asleep or doing some homework when my head didn't hurt that much. That also means that I skipped Top Tips Tuesday and I am not posting for Fashion Fridays. Again.

"Pauline, sort yourself out. You're a wreck."

Anyway, I am feeling so much better today and I was more alive than I had been for the whole week. It's nearly half term so I'll have more time to blog and it'll also give me a chance to finish my skirt.

Also, tomorrow is Valentine's Day! I'm not doing anything tomorrow but my boyfriend and I are going bowling on Saturday. He's amazing at bowling (no) and if he beats me I'm willing to pay for our food after. It'll be a fun day. We haven't been on a date in a long time. I'm not really one that's big on romance... Fancy restaurants and overly cheesy cliches are a no-no.

Hopefully my throat, nose and head won't hurt as much tomorrow. That's all for now. Stay beautiful x

Ill On A Monday...

I'm currently in my Art class dying. I've been ill the whole weekend and right now my head is about to explode. I would go home but I have a bunch of stuff to hand in to my English teacher and, considering I've already missed quite a few lessons because of trips and mock exam days, I should probably attend this one.

I've got a study period now and I've done everything that I needed to do so I decided to write this post... I'll go and print out my work later.

I don't like being ill. For some reason, with me, being ill is a big deal. I'm rarely ever sick and when I am I get nosebleeds, headaches that last a day (I've grown used to them so they don't bother me as much) and pains everywhere! I was late to school today - I missed the school bus - so I had to take the public bus and walk to school from a stop about 10 minutes away. Usually, I have no problem with that; I get the public bus home every school day. Today, my legs ached, my back ached and I just felt like an old lady.

I'm probably going to be ill until Thursday at least before I start to get better. I'll still post as much as I can.

That's all for now. Stay healthy x

That Skirt Project - Part 3

My sewing machine is pretty awesome and has settings for buttons, zippers, decorations etc. Anyway, I added all of the buttons onto the skirt! It took literally 20 seconds per button (after I got accustomed to the settings; I did some practise ones first) and the button-holes were pretty easy to do as well after I got all of the measuring out of the way.

Time to start on the waistband!

That's all for now. Stay beautiful x

I Love Figure Skating

The Winter Olympics are here!

I love watching the Olympics; it's amazing what people can do when they put their life into it. I'm not a big fan of doing sports myself but I like watching other people doing what I can't. During the Summer Olympics I get excited when it comes to the gymnastics - it's so elegant and I do feel the pain when the gymnasts mess up their routine. I will cry with them.

When it comes to the Winter Olympics, I watch a lot of the figure skating. It's kind of like gymnastics: the outfits are beautiful; the routines are difficult and it's easy to go wrong; and the skaters themselves are covered in glitter. It's also the time for Canada to show what they can do and, since I have a hoodie with "CANADA" written across it, that's what I'll be wearing whenever I watch it.

That's all for now. Stay beautiful x

That Skirt Project - Part 2

As you can see, I haven't done much for this part. I've been busy doing homework, revision and taking some time to relax as well. The headaches are becoming more frequent and I seriously feel like I'm dying.

Anyway, what I've done so far is just adding pleats to the skirt using pins so that the waist is the correct length around. I've also decided to ditch the ribbon I bought; I can use it for something else. I am using the buttons, though. The skirt's hem is also finished as well as the sides of the skirt. It's going to be a wrap-around pleated skirt. I have one already (it's a red one with brown buttons) and I really like it so I thought a denim one would be nice.

Goodbye Art Coursework

I am done with my coursework (yes!) but it is one of my prized possessions now; I haven't spent as much time and effort into anything else compared to this. I want a decent grade at the end, guys, so I want to do well. This Friday, I have a mock exam for art which just gives everyone the chance to make a final piece - mine's going to be a mixed-media painting with my face slapped onto the middle of the paper.

Anyway, I said a while back that I would share my better pieces of work on this blog so why not now? I still have some time to work back into everything but I want to focus on my art exam from now until the end of Year 12.

First Collage that started it all

I copied a painting by Yunior Hurtado Torres in pencil

Acrylic painting of my friend's face

And another in blue

I attempted to copy a painting by Chris Silver

Sketch book page

Painting in watercolour and acrylic
Print of my friend's face on watercolour

I did a negative one as well

I drew me!

Sketch book page of small oil paintings and research on Audra Ziegel

Copy of a watercolour by Joanne Boon Thomas. It turned out better than I thought it would.

My own composition with roses.
Another one with some more detail and a union jack on top
My final piece is going to be similar to the last painting above. One major difference will be that my face will be printed on top of it in black paint.

That's all for now. Stay beautiful x

That Skirt Project - Part 1

I made a start!

Since I'm kind of lazy (and cheap) I decided to reuse some of my pattern paper from my bag project. They're already rectangular so I just folded them to the correct sizes. I bought some denim from John Lewis - their textiles department is huge! I saw some purple tartan fabric there as well which could come in useful... I'll probably end up making another skirt.

Anyway, the leather I have here has to be dry-cleaned so I can't use it for this. I do, however, have enough denim to make a skirt without the leather so that's what I'm going to do.

I've cut out the waist band and main skirt already. I've also decided to use buttons to fasten the skirt shut. I bought 8 buttons; they were 40p each. I have an idea for them but it's not definite yet. I bought 1.5m of checkered ribbon as well to add onto the skirt.

I know what I'm doing!

Waistband and the main skirt fabric is already cut to size.
Next step - put pleats into the skirt.

Skirts and Stuff...

There's not much to say today. I've started on my skirt project, started knitting another scarf, and I'm just revising my life away this week...

I've bought most of my materials for my project. I've also done all of the measurements but, being the insecure person that I am, I will not share them with you. The only things I haven't bought are any fastenings; I'm still deciding between a zipper or buttons. My life problems are really stupid to other people, I know, but this is a big deal to me. If I get the wrong components, the skirt will not turn out the way I've sketched and planned.

As for tonight, nothing much is happening. I'm just going to be hiding in my room (as usual) and maybe read some more of "A Storm of Swords" or continue with my endless English homework.

That's all for now. Stay beautiful x

I Belong Inside

So where have I been the past few days?

Well, on Friday, I went to the shopping centre after school with one of my friends to give our CVs to the shops around there. We also went on a hunt for some new boots for me since the ones I already had were nearing the end of their lives; the leather was coming off and the heels were worn away (they were rubber). It didn't take long to find a pair. She found me a really nice pair from Bhs that were half price - original price was £50.

When I got home my family were all getting ready to go out. It was my mum's friend's birthday so we had no choice. I spent that night by myself next to the food whilst texting my friends.

The day after, we went out again. This time to Oxford to visit my parents' friend. They're family is going back to the Philippines at the end of the month so it was just a chance to say farewell. I'm close friends with their daughter so i spent the time there with her. We were really childish (we played hand games and Flappy Bird for most of the night) and, since I didn't know anyone else there, I stayed pretty close to her. I am awkward in social situations and I don't really know how to talk to new people... I'm surprised I have as many friends as I do now.

Anyway, we come to today. It's my sister's birthday and she wanted to go to McDonald's. I'm currently sitting with my little sister. She's still eating her Happy Meal and I've just finished my chicken and bacon wrap.

I have mock exams at school this week and I have done no revision whatsoever. I don't like being away from my room for this long. I miss my laptop...
